Clinique was launched by Estée Lauder Inc. in 1968 as the first dermatologist-guided, allergy tested, fragrance free cosmetic brand. Clinique is somewhat different from most cosmetic companies in that its goal is to meet individual skin care needs. Clinique seeks to customize its approach to skin care with its unique line of skin care products to fit the specific individual.
Clinique was originally based off of a 3-Step Skin Care System, which included cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. This 3-Step Skin Care System is still in effect at Clinique Cosmetic Counters today and has been designed to address the individual skin types and needs of the customers. This means Clinique Consultants at each Clinique Cosmetic Counter must interact with Clinique customers and use a specially designed Clinique Computer to find out the customer's skin type (dry, combination, or oily) and provide the products that will best suit his or her needs.
Since the launch of Clinique, the cosmetic line has expanded tremendously. Starting with only three products in the 3-step Skin Care System it now includes additional skin care products for the face, also makeup, fragrance, haircare, and men's products. Clinique Labratories work on improving the skin care products, launching new creams to cater to customers needs, and launching new makeup colors to keep up with each country's newest and hottest trends.
Clinique recently launched a new facial line called CX skin care products. This line of products has been designed for men and women who suffer from the disorder of the facial skin called Rosacea.
